According to my info regarding Tablets at DUT. Nsfas wanted to give students money to purchase these tablets via Sbux system and these tablets where to be purchased from a nsfas registered SBUX store the amount they budgeted for 1 student was R1500 for the tablet and that money was going to enter in sbux by april.
But then DUT management and SRC was against the system of tablet money in SBUX, so they made a deal that the university would buy the tablets for students and supply them to student the same way they do with eWallet cards. NSFAS thought it would be a good idea cause students would get the same tablets and ensure that the money is used for tablets and nothing else, nsfas also knew that student would receive the tablets early but then DUT had other hidden plans which was to make some high profit from these Tablets. DUT offered out a Tender to suppliers stating that anyone interested must pay R1500 per tender Document if interested in this tender.
So approximately almost 100 suppliers applied for this tender, DUT also made a meeting at mansfield hall with all these suppliers whom where interested and made extra money out of that then finally they sold the tender to the supplier whom they say deserved the tender more. And the delay all these months was cause by DUT management because they where busy making extra cash for DUT. Leavig the SRC to be questioned by students regarding tablets. I'm sure you can calculate how much DUT gained from this. Recently a sample of tablets arrived so they management and SRC would approve and choose.
This supplier of tablets purchases his goods from india. And has not responded as of when will tablets be delieved. But since nsfas has been asking about the issuing of tablets DUT is forced to delieve Tablets before end of this month if they want to continue with the deal they had with NSFAS.
All I'm saying is that we will get our tablets cause DUT has already paid for the 10000 units to the Supplier.

This tablet tender was unlawfully conducted by DUT staff. The first tender resulted in a company to supply the latest Huawei Youth 2 devices for all students with the built in cell phone usability. This was the singular company that qualifed for the supply of the units as other companies could not supply their smaple units in time. It was later discovered in the review stages other compnaies like Lenovo and the possible current awardy were allowed to submit devices past the last tender qualification date. The tender then resulted in a retender process, it was appartent the DUT IT leader influenced this first tender process to manipulate the supplier of the device to the current tender awardee. Now all companies bettered their prices including the likes of Huawei, Lenovo, Acer, it became apparent the choice of the current awardee would supply Dual Core device and not the stipulated required Quad core devices to all students. So how justified is DUT in awarding the tender to a company that will supply Dual Core devices for the same price as the top 3 leading brands in tablet devices in the work with Android 4.3 systems to students? The process of this tender has been corrupt through and through, from the dismissal of the first tender stage, to the leakage of confidential pricing information and discussions and to the awardee of non spec non ICASA approved devices, not only have the tendering companies been robbed but so have the students. Imagine if all students had the access to tablets and mobile phones built in? DUT Management have screwed the students royally.
ReplyDeleteAre there any plans by the University towards the unsuccessful fraud tender
DeleteThe students must fight for this, the procurement is corrupt, we would be getting nice devices but now we get rubbish from india! This is not right!!!
DeleteIm a student at DUT and I heard this same story from a senior lecturer, DUT tryna give us cheap tablets and stealing the money for other things. Thanks for the truth!
ReplyDeleteBut why is there so much fraud
ReplyDeleteMoney and Greed! apparently is the procurement team, they had chosen a good supplier in the first tender stage to supply but the procurement manager wanted his friends to win ama tender so he retendered.
DeleteBut this is really questioning because out of all countries they chose an unknown company to offer cheap devices to the whereby the government has signed enough money for the tablets, really justice must be served.
ReplyDeleteYes Sifiso! The campuses and schools in JHB got 90000 smart Haewei phablets, DUT students are gonna get cheap imports that cost R800 on kalahari! Corruption in DUT is bad! Its the students money! not DUT's!
